Mr. Spider

Right before Meredith and I were going to start working on our lessons last night (we have both been called as Sunday School teachers) she needed to use the restroom. I was sitting at the kitchen table when I heard "Vanessa... Come here... there's a spider..." So I got up and went in to see THIS
Our friend Mr. Spider! Of course, I had to document this for the blog so I got my camera and took a bunch of shots while he was chillin' out in the corner. Well just taking pictures wasn't enough because they can be deceiving if you don't have some type of reference point so I asked Mer if she had a quarter.
Yes, he was a BIG spider. Then I said to her, "Do we want to be charitable and try to relocate him to the outside world or should we just squish him?" Well, we went with the Save the Spider route. I went and got a cup and tried to get him in all while singing about how "Mr. Spider" shouldn't move and then get in the cup nicely. He didn't listen very well and started crawling towards me very, very quickly. You can imagine me freaking out a little bit... (All while this was happening, our other roommate Rachel was Skyping her mom.) He made it onto our hallway carpet, so Meredith and I were trying to find him and get the cup onto him.
Luckily we spotted him before he went into anyone's bedrooms but we were making quite a racket so Rachel came out and asked what was going on. We explained the situation and showed her Mr. Spider and she completely understood. We slipped some paper under the cup and then Mer went to pick it up to relocate him.
If you've ever seen printer paper, you know that it isn't very hard and as she picked it up, the paper bent and he was escaping! I was right next to her and didn't want a spider down my shirt so I backed away real quick and she threw the cup and the paper down and we lost him in the carpet again! We then found him again and got the cup back over him. I was about to go get one our FHE brothers or someone to come take the spider outside but then Rachel grabbed the cup and paper, flipped it over and was ready to take Mr. Spider back to his home. She was the hero of the day!

Bane of My Life = Construction

Ever since we have moved to Provo, I have been living next to construction. Don't ask me why I have been the recipient of this curse because I have absolutely no idea. First it our neighbors house, then it was the park, then it was our other neighbors house and then it was even more work on the park. You'd think I would be used to it by now right? Well, I figured "Oh I'll move to BYU and everything will be great! No construction, nice roommates, this is a great deal!" This dream was not to be realized sadly... Right now they are doing construction right outside our apartment! Everyday of the week, without fail, we wake up at 6:30 AM feeling our apartment shaking and the beeping of large cranes and all the other loud, annoying sounds of construction. The worst part is that we don't even know what they are doing! They just dig a big hole and put metal in it... Here are some pictures from our apartment windows.

P.S. If you figure out why this keeps happening to me, let me know!

Meal Plans

Yes, yes I know I am blogging twice in one day but these pics just couldn't wait. Basically I decided that I need to start using my meal plan before it gets too cold/ snowy/ icy/ lame to walk to the Cannon Center. So me, my room roommate Meredith and our wonderful FHE brother Conner decided to go to dinner. Of course, we had to get all dressed up for the occasion! (My roommates Rachel and Aubree did my hair/ makeup. Yes I did want to be in an 80s music video...)

Basically you walk in and can pick whatever you want to eat and eat as much of it as you want. I had a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes and the most de-lish English chips. For dessert I had a chocolate chip cookie with soft serve vanilla ice cream.

Meredith had salad, chicken and rice, potato salad and some grapes. She is much more sophistocated than I, she ate even her grapes with a fork while I was all hands on.

Conner had a bunch of random stuff that I can't remember but the main thing was a fresh waffle with soft serve vanilla ice cream and jam.

We all enjoyed our dinner and the weather was perfect for walking.

S...L...O...W... W...A...L...K...E...R...S...

So I'm not trying to be negative about anyone so DON'T take this personally. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people walk slowly in front of me. I'm six feet tall (basically) and take rather large steps at a quick pace. It's great that those slow walkers enjoy life and want to smell the roses, but come on, is it really necessary for you and your boyfriend to go at a snail's pace while taking up the whole sidewalk? Yeah I didn't think so... The highest rung on this latter of frustration is when it is a couple being all couple-y - holding hands, flirting, staring deeply into each others eyes; you get the picture. You get a dose of PDA and are almost late to class, two things that most people on this campus don't want. And here I will end my venting, please please please walk at a reasonable speed or leave a lane open on the sidewalk for me to pass you.
Thanks! Vanessa
P.S. If you want a life of leisure, go live in France where they accept PDA and strolling through life.

First Post

I started this blog so that I would do better with keeping track of what happens my Freshman year of college at BYU. My lovely roommate Meredith helped me decide to go down this path. Keep watching for updates on our lives! Love, us.
